With the calendar for our mobile Skin Check Truck filling up for 2024 visiting rural communities across Australia this story proves yet again why there is such a need to provide free skin checks with our expert 🔬partner Mole Map
“On a sunny Saturday afternoon, November 18, 2023, my husband and I were enjoying coffee in Pambula on the NSW far south coast. As we drove past the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation Truck parked at a shopping center, my husband, Peter, casually suggested, “Why not get that freckle on your knee checked?” It had appeared suddenly, and though I hadn’t paid much attention to it, we decided to make a quick stop. The staff at the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation Truck examined it and advised me to see my doctor. Not overly concerned, on the following Monday I made an appointment, but the earliest available slot was on December 21. Fast forward to the GP visit, where the freckle was removed, and a warning about its potential as a melanoma was given. Christmas Eve brought the news, it was indeed a #melanoma I needed to consult a specialist surgeon, but with the holiday season, the earliest appointment was set for January 23. Reflecting on my second encounter with cancer (having faced breast cancer in 2022, caught early through a routine mammogram), I’m immensely grateful for the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation mobile Skin Check Truck. Without them, I might have overlooked the “freckle” until it was too late. My message is clear: embrace preventive health services – your life depends on it. Huge thanks to Australian Skin Cancer Foundation, its people, @molemapau and donors – you’ve saved another life.”

Partnering with such an experienced team Mole Map🔬 is something we cherish.
