Thanking skin cancer survivor Jennifer Schleeman who is running 3 half marathons!
We would like to thank skin cancer survivor Jennifer Schleeman who is supporting our foundation by running in 3 half marathons with next one coming up the Sandy Point Half Marathon in September. Jennifer’s goal is to raise $2000!
From all of us here at Aus Skin Cancer Foundation we thank you so much!
“I have a long history of treatment for mostly BCC’s Basal Cell Carcinoma and a few SCC’s Squamous Cell Carcinomas with 14 excisions. These have been from various locations, arms, shoulders, neck, nose, lips and forehead. I have also had numerous treatments of Aldara and Efudex on face, hands, arms, and chest. Nasty stuff!! Also a few BCC’s scrapped off and forever getting those nasty sun spots frozen off my hands.
I get checked once a year, used to be twice but my skin is getting fewer issues. My most recent check had me back in my dermatologists rooms the next day to have a suspicious sore removed from my left upper arm. It was only a tiny spot at the end of last year and has grown quickly. It was found to be another SCC and was the first time my doc has been concerned and we monitoring for spread.
My dad and older brothers have also had treatment, with my dad having a couple of early Melanomas removed. Our son had his first BCC removed from his back when he was 15. I only remember him getting seriously sunburnt once when about 9. We are all very aware of the importance of regular skin checks to get any spots early.
I am running in 3 Half Marathon events, Run Melbourne I did in July, Sandy Point in September and then the Melbourne Festival in October. I hope I raise a decent amount for your foundation.”
